Le Singe Vert

160 Seventh Avenue
(between 19th and 20th Streets)

Came for brunch on Memorial Day, so the restaurant might have been having an off day due to the holiday.

Not sure what was wrong with their air-conditioning, but it was not working properly. They did have one ceiling fan on in the back, but since it was a very humid day, it was a bit uncomfortable. Perhaps it improved later in the day.

And the server also told us that their freezer wasn’t working, so no ice cream would be available to accompany any of their desserts.

But who knows, with a name like “The Green Monkey,” it shouldn’t come as a surprise that some tricky monkey business might ensue.

My friend went with their Le Singe Benedict, which came with smoked ham, hollandaise sauce, home fries, and salad.

As a prix fixe ($25) special, it also came with a drink. She chose a bellini.

I ordered the three-egg omelet with home fries and salad ($11). For an extra $1.50, I also added goat cheese and spinach. Top marks for the home fries. Crispy!

With it being officially summer, I went with a rosé: the Côte-de-Provence Château de la Clapiere Cru Classé.

We ordered their chocolate mousse special. Light and not too sweet! Perfect dessert for a hot, humid day.

To accompany our dessert, we paired it with a glass of their Canard Duchêne “Brut” Champagne.

You can't go wrong with Champagne!

Pros:
Friendly service.
Good food.

Cons:
Air-conditioning was not working properly.
Freezer not working.

Final Thoughts
Decent restaurant choice if you’re in the Chelsea area and in the mood for bistro fare.
