75 Ninth Avenue
(between 15th and 16th
Streets)
Located in the Chelsea Market, Corkbuzz is a great place to
stop and have a glass of wine after a day of shopping or walking around the
Meatpacking District or the Highline.
Was walking in the Chelsea Market one early afternoon with a
friend, and we decided to stop in Corkbuzz when we saw that they were offering
a wine special of $7 for a glass of wine.
While a very small bar, they offered an extensive wine menu.
First, we went for a glass of their Artner rosé (normally
$11) from Austria.
I found the rosé a bit too dry for my taste, so I asked to
try their Grayson Cellars chardonnay (normally $15) from California, which was
much more to my liking—rich and buttery.
I do have to make a special note about the service. They
were really terrific. My friend wanted a coffee—which surprisingly they don’t
serve. They suggested that we go and order the coffee from the store next door
and bring it back and have it at the bar!
Even better, they allowed us to go and come back without
paying for our drinks first!! They didn’t ask us to leave a credit card, some
property, anything. They just trusted that we would return and pay our bill.
Which of course we did!
Considering how New Yorkers
are often accused of being jaded and suspicious, it's nice to see that stereotype be proven wrong every now and then.
Pros:
Very friendly service.
Bathroom located in the bar! Good hint to know, when
visiting the Chelsea Market as most tend to wait on very long lines to the
Ladies’ Rooms out in the Market proper.
Cons:
The lighting might have been a smidge too bright, but it
could just have been that we went there in the afternoon. They might lower them
considerably for dinner.
Final Thoughts
Would definitely go back even to stop in by myself for a
glass of wine to escape the hustle and bustle of Chelsea.
