Located on a side street of NYC, this charming restaurant is
a nice hideaway to enjoy a quiet, cozy meal. It almost feels as if you are somewhere
in Europe.
Happily stumbled on to this restaurant during a wet, rainy,
summer afternoon when a friend and I were looking for a place to chat. As
opposed to some popular, crowded joints around the corner where the wait was 30
minutes or you had to shout at your dinner partner in order to have a
conversation, La Pizza Fresca Ristorante was a mature, comfortable option.
You might assume that I tried their pizza, but the
restaurant is mostly applauded for their wide wine selection. They have been awarded
Wine Spectator’s Best of Award of Excellence for several years (including
2012). I had a glass of their Sangiovese ($10), which the knowledgeable host
replied is similar to Chianti, but was 100 percent Sangiovese.
The pour was generous and the glass was absolutely gorgeous!
It was aromatic, spicy, and full-bodied, and a perfect
pairing with the Tortina di Cioccolato—a warm mini chocolate soufflĂ© cake with
a melted chocolate center.
The dessert is a chocolate lover’s dream!
Best of all, the staff allows you to linger even if you’re
only having dessert!
