Giovanni Rana Pastificio & Cucina

75 Ninth Avenue
(between 15th and 16th Streets)

Before checking out the Halloween sights and sounds, went to Rana in The Chelsea Market for dinner. Had been wanting to go to this restaurant for a while as I was fascinated with their take-out orders of fresh, homemade pastas.

Surprised to find that it was relatively quiet and empty, considering that it was Halloween.

We started off with the sautéed shrimp with heirloom beans and rosemary appetizer ($10). Did not mind the beans with the shrimp.

We then shared the squid ink linguine with spicy Maryland lump crab ($36). Thought the pasta was a bit too al dente for my liking.

We also ordered a side of the roasted Brussels sprouts with lemon thyme and chilies ($9). Delicious! And it was a perfect accompaniment with the squid ink pasta!

We washed down our meal with a bottle of the Rosé de Vallée ($44).

Pros:
Allowed us to share pasta dishes.

Cons:
Bit pricey.

Final Thoughts
Glad that I finally tried the food, but nothing exceptional considering the pricing.
